slurp it from your palm

hey guys, it's the day after easter, so i don't have to cringe at any more OMG JESUS WUZ A ZOMBIE jokes !

my weekend played out exactly like i described it ! on friday, i got out of work at 2 and came home and started a new chewbacca. that last one was so fucked up and gigantic ! i managed to get it down to the correct size (4.5") and finish it this weekend, but it's still obviously my first project. the stuffing came through in a few places and his eyes are crooked and i forgot to sew his face on before i sewed him up so i had to improvise after, and he unfortunately did not get a nose.

chewbacca

overall i'm pretty pleased that i learned a new skill but making that teeny bandolier was so annoying that i may never crochet again.

on saturday, christina and i went to whole foods to get groceries. i bought um.. "sandwich flats"? which may be good for eating veggie burgers on since i'm not into hamburger buns (though hot dog buns are my fave?)

sandwich

i also got some icelandic chocolate easter eggs which i forgot about and are probably melting somewhere, 2lbs of strawberries, weird vegetarian meatballs, and like... yogurt? maybe. it's all irrelevant though because i forgot to bring any of it to work with me so i'll be eating whatever i can scavenge here, which includes two reeses peanut butter eggs so far. we also went to loop so i could pick up my yarn. i got some more berroco vintage to finish some projects, and one of these things that is oddly called a kacha kacha?

kacha kacha

saturday night, mouse, christina, and i went out to adobe in manayunk for dinner. i was weirdly not hungry so i ordered a salad and broccoli bisque. the salad was just like, the saddest salad in the universe (2 slices of cucumber, 3 slices of mushroom, 2 slices of tomato, 2 slices of green pepper, 4 pieces of shredded carrot, and lettuce) and i um, forgot what bisque is? haha. so i was kinda disappointed to get... bisque. i also got a half pitcher of white sangria which turns out was too much sangria for one person. i don't know what happened but i'm suddenly bad at eating at restaurants...? haha

adobe

after dinner, we drove out to chestnut hill (or mt. airy?) to go to the ice cream trolley.

trolley car

it's in a beautiful area and everything, but the allure is that SOMETIMES they have tofutti and mouse can have ice cream too. they didn't have any on saturday, but i'd made him a vegan easter basket so he had treats too.

easter basket
jelly bellies, orbit bubblemint gum, panda black licorice, marzipan ritter sport

i got a waffle cone with soft serve and rainbow sprinkles (the best) and christina got birthday cake ice cream, and then we drove around for awhile looking at chestnut hill in the dark. it was a really beautiful night spent with my favorite people on earth (minus jeanne d. and my mom ! haha).

on sunday, i tried to clean my room. i separated my laundry into four piles:

- garbage
- dirty
- clean
- not dirty but not quite clean

and threw out any trash in my room + the garbage clothes (i had NOTHING to donate because i don't take care of my clothes and everything is from old navy and is like, holey as hell), bagged up the dirty laundry, put away the laundry that was already folded... and left a bunch of not dirty not clean stuff all over the floor. it looks leaps and bounds better, but even doing that took me like five hours because i hateeeee cleaning and didn't want to do it and kept complaining ! haha.

after that, mike came over and we went to get food (i got beet salad which turned out to be raw and gross, ravioli pasta salad with asparagus, sundried tomatoes, and olives, citrus roasted potatoes, and an orange) and ate it in clark park by the dog bowl with christina.

the dog bowl in wintery months

it was so beautiful out and we got to see the cutest toddler (her dad gave us a flier for a craft fair at the firehouse next weekend ! i may stop by, but christina will be in boston) and the best dogs. it was pretty weird, there was a teeny puppy on the blanket next to us who was identical to mike's old dog molly.

mollyyyyy

after that we came back to our house and christina and mike ignored me for warcraft huhuhuhuh while i crocheted. i guess i was ignoring them for crocheting, too. we also watched the next episode of the pacific but mike aggressively "who's that guy?"'d me so i missed a lot of the fine details. um, it didn't exactly strike me as gripping and entertaining though. god damnit, why isn't the pacific any good yet? it's also weird that i find the dude playing leckie to be super hot

leckie

and his character is by far the most, um, "meaty", and he's the best actor so far of the main characters (i have high hopes for joseph mazzello but he hasn't been in it much yet), but like... i just fucking hate his character? he's so pompous and arrogant and they're writing him so heavy-handed. ugh. anyway, i'll report later once i watch the episode.

nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i'm at work and i've already eaten so much candy and am basically cornholio right now

have you seen my portfolio?

so i'm going to go do the handful of things i have on deck for the day and maybe watch some netflix instant viewing while i do it.

dance dance dance dance dance to the radio

i would like to invite everyone in the world who works in an office to stop talking to themselves because it's annoying and distracting.

regrettably, i had to miss the cat birthday party (though jeanne texted me to inform me that cats apparently hate when people stand around and watch them eat) because i had gross cramps and just wanted to go put on something with an elastic waist

skirtttt

and relax. the green line made a facebook update earlier in the day that kept calling to me like a siren's song, though, because of my newfound love for foofy coffee-flavored non-coffee beverages:

Ask for a s'More Iced Latte today! A little marshmallow, chocolate, and espresso all mixed together to make yr trip to the park extra great.

so christina and i went over and got them (they are actually just an iced mocha with toasted marshmallow syrup). i also got a vegan chicken salad sandwich

dinner

and then felt like a total crazy person from all the sugar and caffeine ! christina showed me a few stitches i was unsure of on the chewbacca pattern. honestly i probably could have figured it out since i just didn't read the instructions but it was nice to have someone to help me. so um, boyyyyy this thing looks funny? haha

chewy

i should have put the eyes closer together before i stuffed it ! and it's weird because the vigorous brushing really stretches the stitches out so he has some weird gaps. i think it'll look fine but maybe like, slightly pathetic? but doesn't patheticness make stuff cuter? heh? i think the problem is that i used the materials suggested (size E hook, DK yarn) in the pattern and instead of being 4.5 inches tall, this motherfucker is 7 inches tall !

we also raided last night, and it was okay. we finally got the bloodqueen down and then did valithria really quick. it's sort of a bummer because a lot of good people kind of drifted off over the winter, and we had to recruit some people, and a lot of the new recruits totally suck? like, their damage will be good or whatever but they won't listen to instructions or make the same mistakes over and over. and a lot of them are totally lame internet video game people which isn't really the environment i'm used to or like playing in. i'm spoiled i guess because aside from a few total dorks, my guild is mostly cool people that i've met or know people i know. some good news though- the lungbreaker dropped off of valithria !!!

lungbreaker

it's kind of bittersweet because the general vibe among the people i like playing with is that they don't really want to play anymore and i kinda feel that way too. i like hanging out with them and i like the actual GAME, but it's basically to the point where it's like a group project in college, where you have to work really really hard while other people slack off and then you either all pass because of you, or fail because of them.

plus it's really nice out now !

tonight i'm going to lay low, i think. maura might be around to hang out (though she has to babysit !) but if not, i'm just going to finish this chewbacca and then immediately start another more tightly crocheted chewbacca (christina thinks i'm crocheting too loosely), maybe watch up in the air, and maybe clean up my room. tomorrow i'm going to do errands with christina (and maybe finally pick up my yarn?) and then mouse and i are going to try to eat dinner outside. sunday mike and i are spending easter together eating discounted easter candy.

mini eggs

if i finish the second chewbacca, i'm going to start those beautiful heart socks ! that's my reward. what an exciting weekend full of neat friends.

p.s. i drank too much v8 and i feel like i drank lava

wazzzaaaaaaaaaaa

i'm gonna be up front, this entry is mostly going to be about crocheting and yogurt.

yesterday christina and i met up and walked home from work together and it was delightful ! having someone to talk to made the walk go by a lot faster. i mean, it's like... a 15 minute walk, but it's a boring one with very little to look at now that those men's underwear that were stuck on the powerlines are gone. the urge to nap after work is incredibly strong since i got into that shitty pattern of napping after work and staying up super late, but i resisted- unfortunately i'm still staying up super late though ! i was like, basically catatonic after work because i was so tired, but i stayed up and started a new chewbacca since i got my dk yarn from knit picks.

chewbacca

doesn't it look like bigfoot's ghost right now? its eyes plaintively staring at me was a total mindfuck, too !

i know it's boring when people talk about what they eat but to work on ED stuff i'm trying to generally eat the same exact things at every meal, because it's much easier for me to control what i'm eating with a routine than when i try to be spontaneous or, you know, enjoy food. i have a feeling that i won't be able to enjoy food for like 10 years, or ever? anyway, i've been eating:

breakfast
- yogurt
- fruit (pears !)

snack
- almonds
- pretzels

lunch
- quorn patty (or veggie burger) on a wheat roll with spinach/artichoke cream cheese
- baby carrots

dinner
- red beans and rice and peas
or
- soup with spinach and pasta and white beans and olive oil
or
- some kind of fake meat thing, sweet potatoes, and a vegetable

when i write that out, it doesn't really sound like a lot of food, but i tend to eat larger meals at dinner time (and i've had trouble sticking to the dinner options this week) because that's kind of the uh, danger zone for me as far as disordered eating. anyway, the point of me telling you all that is that i deviated from my usual dannon all natural vanilla

dannon vanilla

and instead got stonyfield organic french vanilla

stonyfield

i really love greek yogurt texture (but never the taste? i'm american, i want really sweet yogurt, spiro) so i um... usually leave my tubs of yogurt sitting out for a night so most of the whey separates out and the yogurt gets thick. but this stonyfield yogurt is totally weird and every morning when i open the container there's like two inches of whey on top and the texture now is basically like noxema? it's really weird and tomorrow's breakfast is going to be grim !

i did just remember that i have an ice cream maker though:

ice cream maker

so i think this weekend i'm going to get stuff to make dark chocolate cherry froyo for me and christina.

i really truly have nothing to talk about. now that i'm not napping i don't even have cool night sweats and stuff to write about !

p.s. i'm kind of busy at work today and it blows

i've got you in my sights

what a good weekend ! on friday, nick and sandi came down from new york. christina and i met them at monk's (monk's on a friday night during happy hour times ahhhhhhh) and had the best time. i tried the seitan cheese steak and was kind of disappointed- it was hard to eat and had no real flavor besides "seitan". i'll stick with the antwerp burger from now on (vegan burger with sottocenare truffle cheese & shitake mushrooms) !

antwerp
this is not the vegan burger

nick and sandi came back to our house after that and we drank the fancy, extremely bitter beers nick brought and had the best time ever but all i can really remember was we laughed a lot and painted our nails? i think we convinced them to move here though, which is awesome because nick is the best and sandi is like, the best cutest funniest.

on saturday, we ran some errands- we dropped off my laundry, went grocery shopping, and went to a.c. moore to get chewbacca and ewok fixins. the chewbacca pattern is pretty weird- she was like 'get rust and greyish silver variegated dk weight yarn !!!' but that's a magic thing that doesn't exist. i just got, uh, "brown". and i bought a million creepy eyes on etsy !

doll's eyes
from (ahem) fashion diva crochet and 6060

then we came home and i watched some crocheting youtube videos and made a swatch and brushed it to see if i could get the furry effect needed for the chewbaccas:

fur

i was worried because i had to get acrylic yarn, but it furred up nicely ! after nick and sandi left, mouse came over and we watched enemy at the gates, to continue our WWII kick.

enemy at the gates

it was... pretty silly but entertaining? i love that all the russian people had british accents and all the germans had british OR american accents but when people on either side spoke to each other they could all understand each other ! haha. i didn't have high expectations because mouse has been suggesting i see it for years but made no bones about it being anything but silly and entertaining. also, ed harris is totally a great nazi and joseph fiennes looks just like my brother ! i could have lived without seeing jude law get a siberian handjob though.

on sunday, i slept as much as possible. it was rainy and cold and miserable and i didn't feel like doing anything. mouse took me to get my laundry, and then christina and i made kraft macaroni and cheese for dinner ! i had that and morning star buffalo wings and v8 to celebrate remembering to pick up zantac so i can eat like that.

morning star

and ! the moment i've been waiting for since it was announced in 2007 ! mouse, christina, and i watched the first episode of the pacific !!!

the pacific

some observations
- i will reserve judgement, but the pacing of the first episode seemed rushed. there's some dudes, some dudes went to guadalcanal, it looked like they were losing but they won, some other dudes came to guadalcanal, the end.
- the tom hanks narration at the beginning was a bummer but i guess necessary
- the characterization seems a little slim, and it's going to be tougher because it's based on the stories of three random people who don't really interact (sledge, leckie, and basilone) rather than the story of a company of buds
- we're basically 1-for-1 with the man's inhumanity to man thing (japanese soldier blowing up the medics, american soldiers taunting and torturing the japanese soldier)
- that one guy looks like stifler
- the characterization of leckie is really clumsy- they made him seem like a pretentious asshole that no one likes and are reallllly trying to drive home the fact that he likes to write
- some of the actors seem wayyyy too old
- tim from jurassic park as gene sledge !
- i'm confused as to why they cast a short non-italian dude as john basilone? i'm used to hollywood thinking that no one can tell the difference between an italian person and a hispanic person, but this is especially weird because the actor playing "manny rodriguez" looks a lot like the real john basilone?

overall, i was entertained, and i'm curious to see where they're going with it. it's hard to remember what my first impression of band of brothers was since i first saw it almost 10 years ago, so maybe i was reticent then, too.

anywayyyy hay guys.

p.s. at like 2am i got obsessed with how romantic "hungry eyes" is and even though i've barely seen dirty dancing all the youtube videos were clips from the movie and i was like, "godddd this movie looks so gooooooood."

you've gotta rub me the right way

last night i dozed off during the simpsons (as is my wont) and woke up to american idol. how is this a show that people watch? i don't understand why you would want to watch nerds do acoustic christina aguilera covers? or pretend that the winners will be doing anything in 5 years besides giving handjobs in a bus station? i think the only thing more baffling to me is so you think you can dance because i'm pretty sure there isn't even a career we're pretending those people are gonna get?

reuuuuuuben

as you can tell i didn't actually do anything after work (i did walk home though ! and was like GOD THIS IS TAKING FOREVER NO WONDER I'VE BEEN TAKING THE TROLLEY LATELY and then when i got home i was 18 minutes into my history podcast that i started when i left work, which included a trip to the store to get ketchup) so instead of my life i'm going to talk about star wars amigurumi. i'm not usually into amigurumi (besides LOOKING at it) because i am an adult and don't need toys, but i bought these patterns on etsy yesterday:

ewok !

chewy !
from lucyravenscar on etsy

and i'm going to make a million of them. like, i can't think of anything more satisfying than like 500 of those ewoks covering every surface of everything i own, like a crazy person.

i also want to draw attention to this- the "NOT SURE WHAT IT IS" in this person's etsy store.

NOT SURE WHAT IT IS

what the hell is that??? someone BOUGHT it !!!! my friend tori's best guess was, corn with intestines hat and i think that's about as correct as anything can be. i also want to add that it baffles me that that person has so many etsy sales of stuff like:

uhh

ahhhh

when i regularly come across etsy stores with uh, actual good shit and beautiful art and awesome craftsmanship who have like, two sales. i'm quitting my day job and selling corn with intestines hats on etsy !

p.s. i am the saddest crappiest ever today.
