it's the bomb the bomb the bomb the bomb the bomb the bomb the bomb that will keep us together

is it possible for bug bites to activate? i got bug bites this saturday while in the woods that weren't really red or itchy, and suddenly today they are mega itchy. HUH !

okay, first thing's first ! yesterday i had lunch with christina and chrysta which means i finallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy finally met chrysta ! chrysta is a friend i met on the internet who is incidentally good friends with my friend nate. she lives in michigan (and definitely says "pop") and was in town to see unrest. man, she is cool and also very funny and also very satisfyingly short (as a slightly above average height person i love having short friends because i think it enhances my height).

godzillas

then i went back to work and managed to get some work done despite being so nervous about class. i actually found out something good about a boring project i do every summer (it may become automated !) so that was good newsssss.

anyyyywayyyyy i came home after work and got ready for my classes. i was like.. instantly tired cause i was in my underwear and directly next to my bed, but i resisted. my first class was american history through 1865 and honestly was just mostly other students acclimating to adobe connect. the professor seems really nice- she explained a bit about our assignments and stuff, and then let us go a half hour early to work out microphone issues with other students. haha.

weird picture

my german class was a little more meaty. the professor had met with us previously to make sure we were able to use adobe connect so we only spent about 10 minutes on that, and we went right into our first lesson, which was just conversational introduction stuff in german. i'm not sure if it's because i've taken german or what, butttttttt no one but me seemed like they really knew what was going on? also i'm such an insufferable teacher's pet and answered every single question because no one else wanted to talk.

that's really about it- the history class seems like way more work than i expected (LOTS of reading !) but the german class maybe seems like a little less. i'm going to watch my history lecture today and do my german stuff and see if i can stay on top of it.

the two roxies
right: the hardened exterior i project to all of you. left: me in class

other than that, half a watermelon and a poor night's sleep.

p.s. the history professor said we had an open book 24 hour final and not one but two people thought that it meant that the test was 24 hours long.

we gotta get out of this place

okay ! let's look at the to-do list ! it's slightly augmented !

- straighten up bedroom
- read my history chapters and take notes
- view the online portal for my history class and do the set-up for my german class
- tune up/grease/clean bike
-work on craft swap project
- straighten up the kitchen and living room
- go back to trader joe's for some frozen crap
- catsit hoolie !
- brush my own cat and clip her toenails

last night was a good night ! i came home from work and minimally straightened up the living room and took the garbage out (luckily the living room wasn't too messy cause.. i haven't been in it for awhile !) and then christina came home (i haven't seen her in foreverrrrr cause her class was ending) and jeanne and mike came over. i was really excited because jeanne is the coolest person and mike is also extremely cool, and he'd never been to my house before !

nervous hostess

jeanne had me get this russian movie from netflix called wolfhunter. actually, it's called wolfHOUND, but it's cemented in my brain as wolfhunter (why would something be called wolfhound? that's redundant. doghound. wolfcanine. wolfdog.). basically it is a ye olde tymey story about a child whose parents are killed by an evil dude and who is forced into slavery who mysteriously becomes good at fighting and saves/avenges slaves. he also wolfhunts for the guy who killed his parents.

wolfhound

the movie is billed as conan the barbarian meets lord of the rings and i can't say it's really wrong? like, it's as shitty as any conan movie and as pretty as any LOTR movie ! the story was a little bit confusing because my brain kept refusing to pay attention but like, some cool wind happened and maybe some stabbing? the best part of everything, though, was that there were capable female warriors and it wasn't a big deal or odd that they were there, and the conqueror of the black bear (the like... chieftan of a weird little group of druids) was a tough fat lady ! and the princess was very tough and beautiful (and of course falls in love with wolfhunter)

wolfhound
that guy? not wolfhunter. just this other guy who is identical to him !

mike also brushed pizza for me so i could take it off my chore list ! i really appreciate it, and it was also exciting to show him the majesty of the furminator. i think he was really impressed.

furminator !

after the movie was over, mouse stopped by and we watched some futuramas and mike drew some cool monsters (which you can see on his blog here) and jeanne paged through christina's art history book looking for a dragon (and came up empty). everyone went home and i got some quality time and cuddling with christina (her class is really cramping our style !!!) before going to bed.

also, remember my plan to get mouse to buy me a watermelon?

"i'm going to try to get him to bring a watermelon too but i'm not entirely sure how that's going to go. my plan is that he and i can both have some watermelon and then WHO WANTS TO CARRY A CUT WATERMELON HOME?? so i get to eat the rest of the watermelon."

it backfired when my power went out and we had to eat watermelon at his house? it actually backfired again, per his flickr.

watermelon
This is for Roxy. Her plan to scam me out of my watermelon backfired and I ended up eating it with my family. In your face.

there was a third picture where he got his family members to eat watermelon but i'm not posting it, because it hurts too much (and i don't know if it would be weird for them). suffice to say, i'm disappointed that what was supposed to be my watermelon became his baby nephew's first solid food.

okay guys, tonight's the night ! i have to do my history homework tonight, and i have to check out my bike, because i'll be in center city tomorrow and can get tubes or whatever if i need them. wish me luck !

hoo's on first

they're cleaning the windows at work so all the blinds are open and it looks so sunny and cheerful in here. unfortunately the building is like... entirely windows so if we live the shades up we get cooked like ants under a microscope.

ants

i got my first textbook yesterday and intended to do my reading for my first class ! and then of course i totally didn't do it. class doesn't start til july 6, so i have time ! heh? i helped paul make a website, which so far just contains a picture of his dog

tico garcia

and ate some m&ms and tried to watch another movie with daniel bruhl called ladies in lavender, where he um... plays a violinist who washes up on a beach and is nursed back to health by maggie smith and dame judi dench. i have to say, it is not quite as exciting as it sounds.

what the fuck
they're all... wearing lavender

what the fuck ! what the FUCK ! why am i watching this shit ! my celebrity crushes (though i don't get them frequently) rarely make sense and usually involve me watching a bunch of movies the person was in and then resenting them because i had to do that- my biggest celebrity crush ever was BILL PAXTON, and this was all wayyyyyy before he was on big love. for every aliens and near dark he made, there's like 20 boxing helenas and twisters. he wears a MESH SHIRT in boxing helena and utters the line, "hasta whatever." that's what i had to put up with ! god.

what? anyway, i unfortunately could not make it through ladies in lavender. i think i was supposed to feel for the old ladies, who were clearly hopelessly in love with their young guest, but as a young person it made me uncomfortable? like the dude obviously thinks of them like grandmothers and they let him rest his head on their shoulders and get grandma hugs and stuff while wanting to fuck him? that's weird, right? unfortunately the plot had not become apparent an hour and 20 minutes in so i am not actually sure what the story was.

bill paxton

there's bill paxton at his best to cleanse our palates.

after giving up on that, i did another left 4 dead 2 campaign with ken. this one was in a swamp, and it was sort of comforting because it looked like the black hammock (the area i grew up in).

hammock

i did half as well as ken which i've deduced as promising because he's MORE than twice as good as me. not sure how i worked that out, but whatever. this is only the second time i've played and i think i actually did worse this time. i definitely need a bigger tv, but that's going to have to wait until i'm very rich which is never going to happen because i have no ambition and i hate money, and i'm also not going to buy a tv just for video games.

or am i?

(no)

tonight mouse is coming over to eat spaghetti. i'm going to try to get him to bring a watermelon too but i'm not entirely sure how that's going to go. my plan is that he and i can both have some watermelon and then WHO WANTS TO CARRY A CUT WATERMELON HOME?? so i get to eat the rest of the watermelon.

watermelon
mouse gets that little piece !

i gotta go, i have a meeting. BYE

i'm the phaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantom of the operaaaaa (that's me !)

what's up dudesssss. i feel like i had the longest weekend ever because i took off work on friday- i've been feeling really weird and lousy for the past couple of weeks. i've had weird equilibrium problems, sore teeth, and a painful outer ear (all things that point to an ear infection ! but my ear only hurts a little on the outside !) and bad headaches and stuff. i stayed home and basically slept all day.

aliens
i don't know what's up with this

when christina got home, we dropped our laundry off and went to cvs, where i got school supplies for my classes (which don't start for like, a month, but i was really excited !) and some pretzel m&ms, which turned out to be not that great. which is a bummer because i um, bought quite a few bags of pretzel m&ms

pretzel m&ms

when we got home, we hunkered down and watched an education, which i've had from netflix for like eleven years at this point. i was psyched because i love peter sarsgaard and i also love carey mulligan (she was in one of the best new doctor who episodes) and i read the article by lynn barber that it was based on right after i heard about the movie.

an education

i did have some problems with it:
- peter sarsgaard's accent was TERRIBLE. terrible. like, unlistenably terrible.
- while i find him very attractive i find it hard to believe that even a bored 16 year old craving sophistication would even have any interest in him.
- i thought her dad was super over the top in an unrealistic way and his immediate 180 in letting her travel internationally with a 40 year old dude and letting her drop out of school to be unrealistic

the problem is, all of that stuff is stuff that really happened according to lynn barber. like, the dude talked in a fake accent to sound sophisticated, he was unattractive, her dad really did act like that. i guess it either makes me think that she was exaggerating or like, maybe it wasn't really a good story?

i played borderlands with perry for awhile, but we didn't get too far because i wasn't feeling well. he also diagnosed me with a traumatic brain injury based on my symptoms. after that, i watched follow that bird with ibrahim on our xboxes, which proved to be much more my speed. i watched it literally hundreds of times as a kid, and the way i remembered the plot is that big bird gets taken away by DHS and he has to go live with a foster family and then he runs away and gets kidnapped by sleazy carnival guys. but that couldn't be right, right? why would that be the plot of a kids' movie?

snuffy

it turns out i was exactly right, down to the fact that the sleazy carnival guys were named the sleaze brothers. it was still good, though it was full of singing and i didn't remember any singing. but i'm basically into anything where i get to see the muppets' legs so i was psyched.

on saturday i felt pretty crappy and sick so i didn't really do much- i tried to sleep a lot and drink lots of water. i was supposed to go to the girls to the front coverband show in west philly, where lots of cool women... played in cover bands (including carol and zia and the awesome girl who was danzig at the halloween cover band show a few years ago). a show in a warehouse on an 85 degree night is a crappy place to go when your ears hurt and you're overheated though, so i stayed home with mouse and we watched inglourious basterds.

laurent
i am feeling a little brocktoon about melanie laurent

i'd already seen it, though mouse hadn't, and i think his fond memories of seeing pulp fiction when he was 16 give him an almost childlike delight when he sees tarantino movies. he really seemed to enjoy hitler getting turned into ground beef by bullets. i also got weirdly fixated on daniel bruhl and added all his available movies to my netflix instant queue, to be watched basically never because they aren't in english and i hate looking at a tv.

bruhl

everything he's in looks pretty brutally dull, but i'd like to make sure that i actually find him attractive and that i didn't suddenly develop a nazi "thing" or something.

soooo to continue my weekend of not really doing anything but watching movies and playing video games, i played borderlands with perry for a bit and watched episodes of spongebob with ibrahim. mike came down on sunday and we got caught in a horrific rainstorm, got some gelato, and went to see get him to the greek- i wanted to see the a-team because i really want to help liam neeson get a vacation home (and i like anything where a tank is dropped from an airplane), but it wasn't playing at a convenient time. anyway, this may surprise you, but get him to the greek sucked !

get him to the greek

like all jud apatow movies, this movie is about a guy who is like, a toooooooootal pussy and is nice to women, and then he meets a masculine guy who teaches him to treat women like crap, and then his life is forever changed except he goes back to being nice to the same woman he used to be nice to? but it's also about how you should follow your dreams, OR about how dreams are not all they're cracked up to be, and also about how you should let people treat you like shit, or not? or something? and the moral of the story is that guys who fuck a lot of women are cool but women who fuck a lot of guys are lying dirty whores. and also that a sexual encounter involving a heavily intoxicated woman is most likely to lead to the man being raped, but his rape is funny because it's funny when men get raped. needless to say, this movie didn't really recover from its rape joke. i laughed a few times but i couldn't tell you what i laughed at, and i'm a pretty smart person but i could not tell you exactly what the overall message of the movie is except like, maybe it's cool, or not, to be a rockstar, and one guy following his dreams sucks but it's good if another guy does, and like... also, puff daddy.

the music was also pretty terrible- like, i feel like if they had spent ten more minutes on the lyrics for each song they could have come up with actual funny lyrics? the songs didn't SOUND bad, they were just so hasty and crappy. i felt the same way about the dracula musical in forgetting sarah marshall- that had everything i liked- dracula, muppets, singing in a dracula voice, a frankenstein (jason segel) but the lyrics were so stupid and lazy that i didn't enjoy it. anyway, rose byrne and puff daddy were the highlights of this movie, and the mad men lady was good too. i also want to encourage the brown haired girl from undeclared to try doing something besides being a "slutty girl" in jud apatow movies because she's very funny and cute.

i got dinner after that (um, a mini quiche and 1/3 of a watermelon?) and then ended up going to bed early because of my bad dinner choices. haha.

watermelon

i seriously didn't realize how much time i spent sitting in front of a tv this weekend until i wrote that. whatever, i didn't feel well ! my goal for next weekend is to actually do stuff and to hang out with mouse and christina more. i might try to take a day off work when mouse has off so we can bro down.

p.s. hayyyyy
